In February 2011, Petronas Carigali Sdn. Bhd. (PCSB) urgently required a gas compression and export platform to stand in for the Bekok-C platform that was undergoing major refurbishment work. De Raj Group was awarded a contract by PCSB for the provision of a Mobile Offshore Production Unit (MOPU) to be installed adjacent to their platform, the Bekok-C. De Raj Group used an already owned Baker Marine, 3 columns, mat supported drilling rig, named RUBICONE and converted the jack up unit to a Mobile Offshore Production Platform (MOPU).

MOPU RUBICONE was transformed into a production unit in Singapore within a period of six (6) months. The unit was refurbished and underwent life extension through renewal of leg to mat connections, steel renewal on hull, mat and legs, blasting and painting. The drilling equipment and its associated equipment that was previously on the unit were removed.

MOPU RUBICONE had the capacity to manage 165 MMscf / day of gas and 6000 bbls / day of crude oil production.

The following works were carried out in Singapore:

  1. Complete refurbishment of marine systems including secondary diesel power generators, dedicated firewater pump engines, emergency generators, water makers, sewage systems, 2 cranes (one fit for man riding), etc.
  2. 60’ leg extensions and complete refurbishment of jacking system
  3. Drill slot closure to allow for increased main deck space
  4. Installation of a linking bridge and process bridge for access between MOPU to Bekok-C platform. Process bridge complete with flexible hose tie in points for hydrocarbon import/export
  5. Hull underdeck strengthening upon successful completion of vibration analysis
  6. Installation of 1 x 100% 100 mmscfd booster compressors
  7. Installation of 1 x 100% 165 mmscfd export compressor
  8. Installation of 2 x 100% gas engine generators
  9. Installation of separation modules, slug catcher, glycol dehydration and regeneration and fuel gas conditioning skid

De Raj Group also carried out the towing and installation of the platform as well as the hook up and commissioning of the platform. The start-up was successfully conducted in the second half of 2011 and upon acceptance, was handed over to the operations and maintenance team who were under the management of De Raj Group. On September 2013, the MOPU RUBICONE was demobilised from the Bekok- C platform after 2 years of operations having achieved an up-time of 92% over the contract period. It was the first demobilisation of a MOPU in Malaysia.
